Awana Station vs First World Hotel: Genting Bus Stops Explained

Booking a singapore to genting bus is one of the most convenient and affordable ways to reach Malaysia’s famous mountain resort. The journey offers comfortable seating, beautiful scenery, and a direct route from the city state to the cool highland air. However, travellers often face a common point of confusion when purchasing their tickets. Specifically, many are unsure where their coach will actually drop them off.

Genting Highlands features two primary bus terminals: Awana Bus Terminal and the First World Hotel Bus Terminal. Depending on the bus operator you choose, your journey will end at one of these two distinct locations. Understanding the difference between them is crucial for planning a smooth and stress-free holiday.

This guide explains everything you need to know about both terminals, helping you choose the best route for your specific travel needs.

Awana Bus Terminal: The Scenic Gateway

Located mid-way up the mountain, the Awana Bus Terminal serves as the main transport hub for Genting Highlands. For many visitors, this is the official gateway to the resort.

Because it sits lower down the mountain, buses do not need to navigate the steepest, winding roads to reach it. Once you arrive at Awana Station, you will need to transfer to the Awana Skyway, a modern cable car system that takes you the rest of the way up to the peak. The cable car ride takes about 10 minutes and offers breathtaking views of the lush rainforest below.

The terminal itself is modern and well-equipped. You will find clean restrooms, luggage storage facilities, and a variety of dining options. It is directly connected to the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets, allowing visitors to do some shopping before heading up to the main resort.

First World Hotel Bus Terminal: Direct to the Action

For those who prefer a seamless journey straight to the peak, the First World Hotel Bus Terminal is the ultimate destination. Located right at the top of the mountain, this terminal sits adjacent to the massive First World Hotel.

Taking a bus that goes directly to First World Hotel means you bypass the cable car transfer entirely. You step off the coach and immediately find yourself within the main Resorts World Genting complex. This terminal provides direct indoor access to hotel lobbies, the Skytropolis Indoor Theme Park, and the SkyAvenue shopping mall.

While the facilities at this specific bus bay are more functional than recreational, you are only steps away from the extensive amenities, restaurants, and entertainment venues of the main resort.

Comparing the Two: Which Stop Suits Your Trip?

Choosing between the two terminals depends heavily on your travel party and your holiday priorities.

    Awana Bus Terminal
The primary advantage of stopping at Awana is the experience. The cable car ride is a thrilling attraction in its own right, offering panoramic views and a unique sense of arrival. It is an excellent choice for budget travellers, as buses stopping here are sometimes slightly cheaper. Furthermore, if your itinerary includes a visit to the Premium Outlets, arriving here makes perfect sense. The main drawback is the required transfer, which can be tedious if you are carrying large suitcases.

    First World Hotel Bus Terminal
Convenience is the biggest selling point here. If you are travelling with elderly family members, young children, or heavy luggage, a direct route to the top is highly recommended. You avoid the hassle of dragging bags on and off the cable car. It is the perfect choice if you are staying at the First World Hotel or nearby peak accommodations. The only downside is missing out on the cable car ride, though you can always buy a separate ticket to ride it during your stay.

Practical Advice for Your Genting Journey

    Choosing the right drop-off point

Always check the exact drop-off location before confirming your bus ticket. If your hotel is located mid-hill (like Resorts World Awana), the Awana Bus Terminal is your best option. If you are staying at the peak (First World Hotel, Highlands Hotel, or Crockfords), look for operators that drive straight up to the First World Hotel terminal.

    Booking your bus tickets

To secure the best times and seats, book your tickets well in advance using online travel platforms. Weekends and school holidays see a massive spike in visitors, and coaches sell out quickly. Buying online allows you to clearly filter operators based on their designated drop-off points.

    Navigating transfers

If you choose a bus that stops at Awana Station, follow the clear overhead signage leading to the Awana Skyway ticketing counters. Self-service kiosks are available to speed up the process. Keep your standard ticket handy, and note that you can alight halfway at Chin Swee Station to explore the iconic temple before continuing your journey to the top.

    Local transportation

Once you arrive at the peak, most major attractions, hotels, and shopping centres are interconnected via covered walkways and escalators. You will rarely need a vehicle to get around the main complex. For attractions slightly further away, free shuttle services operate regularly around the resort.

    Important Travel Considerations

    Luggage Handling
The Awana Skyway has strict luggage regulations. Passengers are typically allowed one cabin-sized bag. If you have oversized suitcases, you must store them at the Awana Bus Terminal for a fee or pay a surcharge to bring them into the gondola. If you pack heavy, booking a direct bus to First World Hotel easily solves this problem.

    Weather Considerations
Genting Highlands sits at a high altitude, resulting in a significantly cooler climate than Singapore. Temperatures often hover between 15°C and 22°C. Pack a light jacket or jumper in your day bag so you have it ready as soon as you step off the bus.

    Planning Your Return
Just as you carefully select your arrival point, pay attention to your departure point. Ensure you know exactly where your return bus departs from to avoid missing it. Allow plenty of time to travel from your hotel room to the bus terminal, especially if you need to take the cable car back down to Awana Station during peak checkout hours.

Ready for Your Genting Highlands Escape?

Both Awana Bus Terminal and First World Hotel Bus Terminal offer distinct advantages for travellers heading up the mountain. If you want to enjoy some outlet shopping and a scenic cable car ride, select a coach terminating at Awana. If your priority is getting yourself and your luggage straight to your hotel room with minimal fuss, a direct bus to First World Hotel is the obvious winner.

Review your itinerary, pack some warm clothes, and book the route that best aligns with your holiday plans.
